Atletico Madrid will host Inter Milan at the Estadio Metropolitano on Wednesday, November 27, 2025, for Champions League matchday 5. This is a crucial fixture for Los Rojiblancos as they face one of Europe’s most in-form teams.
Inter Milan: The Perfect Start
Inter Milan have been flawless so far. Alongside Bayern Munich and Arsenal, they are one of only three teams to win all four opening group-stage matches. The Nerazzurri defeated Ajax, Slavia Praha, Union SG, and Kairat Almaty, securing a spot among the top three in the standings.
However, their perfect run comes with challenges. Five key players missed Tuesday’s training session: Denzel Dumfries, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Matteo Darmian, Raffaele Di Gennaro, and Tomas Palacios. Adding to that, Inter suffered a setback last weekend, losing to AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina.
Atletico Madrid Desperate for Points
Atletico are in a tough position. Currently sitting 17th, they occupy a playoff spot for the knockout phase rather than a direct qualification place. To reach the Round of 16, they must finish in the top eight.
“This is a very important game for our Champions League journey. So far, we’ve lost two tough matches in England and won twice at home. If we want to finish in the top eight, we have to do everything to keep this winning run going,” said Giacomo Raspadori in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Raspadori warned his teammates not to underestimate Inter, even after their derby defeat.
“Inter will come with determination and a desire to bounce back. They’ve been outstanding in the Champions League so far. Sure, they’ve beaten teams from the lower half of the table, but winning in this competition is never easy.”
“I know many of their players—they have incredible mental strength. They know how to recover from setbacks. It’s a strong group, and they’ll arrive in Madrid highly motivated,” he added.
