Manchester City secured a vital, albeit chaotic, 5-4 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage (2/12/2025), in a match that will be remembered for its goal-fest and, more significantly, for a monumental Premier League record being broken.

Phil Foden continued his scintillating form, scoring a brilliant brace to notch his second double in as many games. However, the biggest headline belongs to the Norwegian striker, Erling Haaland, who finally reached his 100th Premier League goal.

The Fastest Centurion

Haaland’s century goal makes him the 35th player to reach the landmark, but his achievement is in a class of its own. He is now the fastest player in Premier League history to score 100 goals, achieving the feat in an astonishing 111 appearances—13 fewer than the previous record-holder, legendary striker Alan Shearer (124 matches).

Haaland expressed his pride at the milestone, while also revealing his hunger for more. “It was of course a proud moment. The 100 club is a huge thing and to do it this quickly is amazing. I’m proud, I’m happy,” he said. He added with a characteristic striker’s self-critique, “I should have had a hat-trick. I need to practice.”

Guardiola’s Defensive Concerns

The match itself was a rollercoaster. City’s lead was repeatedly cut down by a resilient Fulham side, with the host coming agonizingly close to equalizing multiple times late in the game. Nine goals is a thrilling spectacle for the neutral, but undoubtedly a concern for Pep Guardiola, who named an unchanged line-up for the fourth time this season.

“It was chaotic as well for me,” Haaland admitted. “Nine goals in a game is too much and I think if you sit at home watching this game it should be Match of the Day because it was a crazy game.”

Despite the drama, Haaland maintained his relentless mindset. On what he was thinking at 5-1, he said: “I thought of scoring a sixth like I always do. I think at 5-2 or 5-3 I was close to scoring for 6-3 and the minute after they go and score. That’s the beauty of football, that’s why we love the game.”

City and Pep Guardiola will surely be looking for a tighter defensive display when they return to the Etihad Stadium this Saturday to face Sunderland.
