Kazuyoshi Miura extended his record-breaking professional career after signing with J3 League side Fukushima United on Tuesday.
The move means the Japanese forward, who will turn 59 in February, is set to play in his 41st professional season since making his senior debut in 1986 with Santos in Brazil.
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to play in Fukushima, and I will fight hard as a member of Fukushima United. Let’s build a new history together!” said Miura in an official statement.

Holding the distinction of being the oldest player to feature in a professional football match, Miura spent the majority of his career in Japan after returning home in 1990, but also enjoyed spells abroad in Italy, Croatia, Portugal and Australia.
During his time in Australia, he played for Sydney FC on loan from Yokohoma FC in 2005, scoring two goals in six appearances for the Sky Blues.
Meanwhile, his former A-League club are currently among the early frontrunners for the league title after making a strong start to the season.
