Ong Yew Sin revealed that he received abusive messages online, including a death threat, following his early exit from the 2026 BWF Indonesia Masters.
Ong and partner Teo Ee Yi were eliminated in the first round after losing 18-21, 15-21 to Chinese Taipei pair Lee Jhe-huei/Yang Po-hsuan.

Following the match, Ong shared a screenshot on his Instagram Story showing a series of threatening messages sent by the abuser.
“I mean what I said, and I will do everything I can to force you to retire,” the individual wrote.
According to the screenshot, the abuse had begun earlier, with the same person also issuing threats directed at Teo.
In one message, the person wrote about physically harming Teo in an attempt to force Ong to change partner or retire, and warned that it would be fatal if his badminton results did not improve.
This was not the first time Malaysian shuttlers received online abuse, as last October the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) issued an official statement condemning harassment and threats directed at national players, calling for stronger action to protect the athletes.
