The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) released a statement on Monday following allegations of online abuse directed at national players.
It came after the conclusion of the 2025 French Open, where Malaysia’s men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik achieved the country’s best result by reaching the semi-finals.
“[We are] aware of recent instances of online abuse and threats directed at national players,” read the statement.
“There is absolutely no place for hate, intimidation or discrimination in badminton or in society.
“The safety and wellbeing of our athletes remain our utmost priority.
“BAM strongly condemn such behaviour and urge everyone to express their views with respect and positivity.
“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and support our players wherever needed.”
BAM did not specify which players were the targets of the online abuse.
Other national players who competed at the Glaz Arena in France included Leong Jun Hao, Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun, Pearly Tan/M. Thinaah and recently crowned world champions Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei.
