The 2025 MotoGP season reaches its climax this weekend at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia, and while the championship title is already decided, there’s still drama left on the table. Marc Márquez has secured the crown with a dominant 545 points, and his brother Alex Márquez comfortably holds second with 445 points. That leaves only one real fight: the battle for third place.
Bezzecchi vs Bagnaia: Who Will Take P3?
Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi is in pole position to finish third overall. After his emphatic win at Portimão, Bezzecchi sits at 323 points, 35 points ahead of Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia, who has 288 points. With only 37 points available in Valencia (12 for the Sprint, 25 for the Main Race), the math is simple:
- Bezzecchi needs just 2 points to lock in third place.
- Bagnaia needs a perfect weekend: win both the Sprint and the Main Race, while hoping Bezzecchi scores nothing.
That’s a tall order. Bagnaia has only managed a “perfect weekend” once this season—back in Japan. His other wins came at Circuit of the Americas and a Sprint victory in Malaysia, but consistency has eluded him, with multiple DNFs including the costly crash in Portugal.
Why It’s Hard for Bagnaia
Bagnaia’s recent form makes this challenge almost impossible. He hasn’t finished a full race weekend on top since Japan, and Bezzecchi is riding high after his second Grand Prix win of the season. Aprilia’s RS-GP25 has shown strong pace, and Bezzecchi himself says he wants to finish the season strong.
“I’m very happy to be going to Valencia. It’ll be important to try to have a good weekend to finish this season strong. We haven’t been to Valencia for over a year, so it’ll be nice to be back. We’ll try to do a good job and continue along this path,” said Bezzecchi as quoted by Motograndprix.
Valencia: A Stage for Surprises
Valencia is known for unpredictable finales, and this year adds another twist: six different winners in the last six Grands Prix. Could we see a seventh? Riders like Pedro Acosta and Fermín Aldeguer have been knocking on the door of victory, and with nothing to lose, expect fireworks.
