Aaron Chia’s consistency and success were rewarded with the Melaka Sportsman of the Year honour.

Aaron Chia’s list of accolades continued to grow after he was named the Melaka Sportsman of the Year on Monday.

The 28-year-old Malaysian shuttler edged out pole vaulter Hafidzul Ain, silat exponent Danial Azrol Noorazizan and wushu athlete Bryan Ti Kai Jie to claim the 2023/24 honour at the 39th Melaka Sports Awards.

The award recognised his outstanding achievements for the period, including bronze medals at both the 2023 World Championships and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Chia, along with men’s doubles partner Soh Wooi Yik, also enjoyed a strong 2025 season, reaching five BWF World Tour finals and clinching the Thailand Open and Singapore Open titles.

They also won an Asian Championships gold medal in April, defeating home pair Chen Boyang/Liu Yi in Ningbo, China.

Meanwhile, wushu star Tan Cheong Min was crowned Melaka Sportswoman of the Year at the same ceremony.
