Five exciting things to know about 2025/26 Formula E season

The Formula E World Championship returns for Season 12 as it gets underway on December 6 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. As we gear up for all the exciting action, live on SPOTV NOW, here are some of the things you should know about the all-electric series.

17 races across 11 circuits

Formula E enters its busiest season yet, expanding to a record 17 rounds across 10 different host nations. The headline addition is the Madrid ePrix, making its race debut after hosting preseason testing.

China features prominently too, with the Sanya ePrix returning for the first time since 2019, alongside a Shanghai double-header.

The Jakarta ePrix, however, dropped off the calendar after being held in 2022, 2023 and 2025.

Final GEN3 Evo season

Season 12 will be the last outing for the GEN3 Evo cars before the next-generation GEN4 machinery arrives in 2026/27.

Nissan, Jaguar, Porsche, Mahindra and other manufacturers have one last opportunity to maximise performance from the current package before the next major technological reset.

McLaren and Maserati out, Citroën in

Two established names have exited the series this season: McLaren, stepping away as part of their long-term realignments, and Maserati, who have left as part of Stellantis’ motorsport portfolio restructuring.

Replacing them on the grid is Citroën, becoming the latest Stellantis brand to enter Formula E and immediately signalling their clear intent to challenge at the front from day one by signing two-time champion Jean-Eric Vergne and former title contender Nick Cassidy.

Full-season debut for Felipe Drugovich

When the season kicks off in Sao Paulo, home fans will have extra reason to cheer as 2022 Formula 2 champion Felipe Drugovich begins his first full Formula E season with Andretti, partnering former world champion Jake Dennis.

The Brazilian’s arrival should inject fresh unpredictability into a grid already stacked with proven contenders, including defending champion Oliver Rowland, Pascal Wehrlein, Nyck de Vries and Antonio Felix da Costa.

Drugovich isn’t the only one on the grid making a full-season debut as Spanish youngster Pepe Marti steps up with Cupra Kiro and Joel Eriksson gets his first full campaign with Envision Racing.

Mahindra lay down early gauntlet

Preseason testing in Valencia delivered the first surprise of the year as Mahindra Racing topped the overall timesheets with Edoardo Mortara recording the fastest lap throughout the week at Circuit Ricardo Tormo. Meanwhile, champion Rowland clocked the second-quickest time for Nissan.

Mahindra’s gains suggest the team may be able to put up a strong challenge after not having a race win since the 2021 London ePrix.
