Albirex Niigata Singapore announced on Friday the signing of former Japan international Keisuke Honda for the 2026/27 Singapore Premier League (SPL) season.

The club, which will be renamed FC Jurong next season, confirmed that the 39-year-old will join in August in a playing capacity.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to play for FC Jurong. As I turn 40 this year, I am pursuing several personal challenges, including a Guinness World Record for scoring in the most countries’ top leagues,” said Honda.

“However, my primary goal with this club is to win the league title. There are a couple of very strong rivals, so it will be a tough challenge, but I am determined to achieve it.”

Honda enjoyed a decorated career around the world, with notable spells at CSKA Moscow, AC Milan and Melbourne Victory, as well as earning over 90 caps for Japan.

His last club was Bhutan Premier League side Paro FC in 2024, while he also managed the Cambodia national team from 2018 to 2023.
