Pei Jing comes close to first BWF title with Jimmy

Lai Pei Jing and Jimmy Wong finished as runners-up for the seventh time this year.

Lai Pei Jing narrowly missed out on her first BWF World Tour title with new partner Jimmy Wong, after falling short in the 2025 Korea Masters finals on Sunday.

The Malaysian mixed doubles duo were edged out by home pair Kim Jae-hyeon/Jeong Na-eun, losing 22–24, 18–21 at the Wonkwang University Cultural and Sports Center in Iksan.

It marked the fourth time Lai/Wong finished as runners-up on the World Tour, following similar heartbreaks at the Macau Open, Indonesia Masters (I) and Indonesia Masters (II).

They also placed second in Vietnam, Thailand and Réunion on the BWF International/Series circuit.

The 33-year-old Lai, whose former long-time partner Tan Kian Meng retired earlier this year, will have another chance to end the drought at this week’s Japan Masters.

In other categories at the Korea Masters, Singapore’s Jason Teh lived up to his top billing by defeating Yudai Okimoto of Japan to claim the men’s singles title, his second triumph of the year after winning the Thailand Masters.

Meanwhile, Chiu Pin-chian of Chinese Taipei took the women’s singles crown, while South Korea’s Lee Jong-min/Wang Chan and Japan’s Hinata Suzuki/Nao Yamakita clinched the men’s and women’s doubles titles respectively.
