As Malaysia deals with the fallout from FIFA\u2019s ruling on ineligible naturalised players<\/a>, attention has turned once again to Malaysians with overseas football ties. One of the most prominent is Shaun Maloney, the only Malaysia-born footballer to have played in the Scottish top division.<\/p>\n

Maloney was born to an English father and Scottish mother in Miri, Sarawak, before the family returned to the United Kingdom when he was five. He later joined Celtic\u2019s academy and progressed steadily through the youth ranks, eventually making his senior debut in 2001.<\/p>\n

Across two spells with the Scottish giants, Maloney won multiple domestic honours and established himself in the Scottish Premier League, now known as the Scottish Premiership. His time at Parkhead coincided with some of the club\u2019s most successful periods, where he contributed consistently across league and cup competitions.<\/p>\n
