Once on the brink of bankruptcy, the club was rescued by the Hartono family, who invested heavily to stabilize and rebuild the team. After finishing as Serie B runner-up in 2023/24, Como earned promotion to Serie A for the 2024/25 season. Now in their second year in the top flight, they have become one of the league’s surprise packages.

Currently sitting sixth in the table, Como is just three points shy of a Champions League spot. Their confidence is high after a stunning 5–1 victory over Torino in Turin last week. Head coach Cesc Fàbregas expects his side to maintain that level of performance against Sassuolo.

“Sassuolo are a team that play bold, attacking football, with strong wide players, quality in attack, and a very clear game plan. I like the way they approach matches. They’re having an excellent season, and it promises to be an open, technical game; a pleasure to play,” said the boss.

“Against Torino we saw important signs: hunger and determination to make a difference in every detail. But now comes the hardest part: making that our standard, week after week. The difference is made by those who come on, change the game, and feel that urge to challenge the opponent. Consistency comes from that.”

People Also Read: The Anti-Moneyball Twist: How Cesc Fabregas Reimagines Data at Como FC

Sassuolo’s Indonesian Connection

The “Indonesian Derby” tag stems from Como’s Indonesian ownership and the presence of Jay Idzes at Sassuolo. Through training and matches we must continue to strengthen our mentality. We analyze a lot of what we do, but the mentality in this league must always be to win all the matches and push ourselves higher and higher.”

Head-to-Head History

This will be only the second meeting between Como and Sassuolo. Their first encounter came in the Coppa Italia second round on September 24, when Como triumphed 3–1 at Sinigaglia thanks to a brace from Jesús Rodríguez and a goal from Tasos Douvikas.
