Two of them will leave a glaring hole in United’s attack at a crucial stage of the season, with Ruben Amorim’s side locked in a tense battle for a top-four finish.

Bryan Mbeumo, called up by Cameroon, has been United’s most reliable source of goals this season. The forward leads the club’s scoring charts with eight goals and one assist, featuring in almost every game.

Amad Diallo, named in Ivory Coast’s squad, has quietly become one of United’s most creative sparks. With two goals and two assists, his influence has grown steadily—highlighted by his strike in Monday night’s thrilling 4-4 draw against Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Noussair Mazraoui was beginning to cement his place on the right side of Amorim’s back three. Instead, he will now aim to lift the AFCON trophy on home soil with hosts Morocco.

Speaking on his call-up, Amad expressed his delight and offered a message to his club:

“I am so happy to go and play this competition for my country. It is my first AFCON. I wish the best for United while I’m away. I hope they win every game without me, Bryan [Mbeumo] and [Noussair] Mazraoui.”

Amad assesses our draw against Bournemouth 💬 pic.twitter.com/UmLBFPfctv

— Manchester United (@ManUtd) December 15, 2025

For manager Ruben Amorim, finding adequate cover, particularly for Mbeumo and Amad, represents a key tactical challenge. The Portuguese coach remains pragmatic about the situation:

“That is the fun part of being a manager. We will try to find a solution with the players we have. We are ready to cope and will find a way to score goals in a different way.”

United’s chaotic 4-4 draw at Bournemouth underlined their defensive frailties. It was the third time in Premier League history they’ve failed to win a match despite scoring four or more goals—after Everton in April 2012 (4-4) and West Bromwich Albion in May 2013 (5-5).

Amorim reflected on the performance:
“We take a lot of good things from the match, but also a lot to work on. We are not winning games in the details. We need to understand the momentum and be more clinical. We created so many chances to win, so we should have taken all three points.”

Our skipper steps up and finds the top corner 🎯

🎯 @Snapdragon x #ShotOnSnapdragon pic.twitter.com/ePMpVZc3qB

— Manchester United (@ManUtd) December 16, 2025

Manchester United are bracing for a significant setback as three first-team players head to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
