{"id":5146,"date":"2026-06-23T06:34:40","date_gmt":"2026-06-23T06:34:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.spotvnow.com\/read\/?p=5146"},"modified":"2026-06-23T06:34:40","modified_gmt":"2026-06-23T06:34:40","slug":"2023-wimbledon-champion-vondrousova-banned-for-four-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spotvnow.com\/read\/2023-wimbledon-champion-vondrousova-banned-for-four-years\/","title":{"rendered":"2023 Wimbledon champion Vondrousova banned for four years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has been banned from professional tennis for four years after refusing to submit to an anti-doping test.<\/p>\n<p>The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced on Monday that an independent tribunal found the Czech player had committed an anti-doping rule violation after declining to provide a sample during an out-of-competition test at her home in December 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Under anti-doping regulations, refusing a test carries the same consequences as a positive result.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dHAnP2mZiUk?si=2gF6WEXkwG5nPRu1\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Vondrousova, who became the first unseeded woman to win Wimbledon when she defeated Ons Jabeur in the 2023 final, argued that stress, mental health struggles and concerns for her personal safety influenced her decision, but the tribunal ruled that she had provided no compelling justification for refusing the test.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old reached a career-high ranking of world number six in September 2023 and also finished runner-up at Roland Garros in 2019 and the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Her suspension runs until June 2030, but she retains the right to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" style=\"background: #FFF;
