{"id":6587,"date":"2026-10-08T03:48:59","date_gmt":"2026-10-08T03:48:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.spotvnow.com\/read\/?p=6587"},"modified":"2026-10-08T03:48:59","modified_gmt":"2026-10-08T03:48:59","slug":"motogp-introduces-separate-sprint-qualifying-for-2027","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spotvnow.com\/read\/motogp-introduces-separate-sprint-qualifying-for-2027\/","title":{"rendered":"MotoGP introduces separate Sprint qualifying for 2027"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MotoGP will introduce a separate qualifying session for Sprints from 2027, giving the Saturday and Sunday races their own starting grids.<\/p>\n<p>The change, announced on Wednesday, replaces the current system in which Saturday\u2019s qualifying results determine starting positions for both races.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GN5Ek6xB4ao?si=sudlo2WBeDVzYbeY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Under the new format, all riders will contest a 15-minute Sprint qualifying session on Friday to set the grid for Saturday\u2019s shorter race.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifying for Sunday\u2019s Grand Prix will remain on Saturday, but the process will also change.<\/p>\n<p>Every rider will take part in Q1, with the fastest 12 advancing to Q2 to decide pole position and the front four rows.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the top 10 riders from Friday\u2019s timed Practice session go directly into Q2, where they are joined by the two fastest from Q1.<\/p>\n<p>This system has been used since the 2023 British Grand Prix, when Friday morning\u2019s times stopped counting towards qualifying to allow riders to focus on bike setup rather than chasing a fast lap.<\/p>\n<p>That route will disappear next year, with Friday\u2019s Practice replaced by a 30-minute Free Practice 2 session that will not determine entry into qualifying.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday\u2019s 10-minute warm-up will also be removed.
