Indonesia’s women’s doubles stars Aldila Sutjiadi and Janice Tjen continued their impressive run at the SEA Games 2025, cruising into the final after dismantling the Philippines duo Steffi Aludo and Tennielle Madis in Wednesday’s semifinal (Dec 17). The Indonesian pair dominated from start to finish, winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

This victory keeps alive their mission to secure a second gold medal in Nonthaburi. Just last weekend, Aldila and Janice were instrumental in delivering Indonesia’s triumph in the women’s team event, edging Thailand in a tense final decided by a 1-1 tie.

For Janice, this doubles success is especially meaningful. On Tuesday, she was forced to retire mid-match in her singles semifinal against Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew due to illness. After a quick recovery, she returned to partner Aldila in the doubles quarterfinal, where they battled past Singapore’s Eva Marie Cheng and Su Yan Tan in a thrilling contest, 6-1, 4-6, 10-6.

The dream of an all-Indonesian final narrowly evaporated on the adjacent court as Anjali Kirana Junarto and Priska Madelyn Nugroho pushed the formidable Thai duo of Lanlana Tararudee and Peangtarn Plipuech to a first-set tiebreak, before eventually succumbing 6-7, 2-6.

Sutjiadi and Tjen will now face the Thai pair with regional pride and a second gold medal on the line. The women’s doubles gold medal match is set for Friday, December 19 at 10:00 AM local time at the National Tennis Development Center in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

Both Aldila and Janice have been rising forces in Southeast Asian tennis. Aldila currently ranks No. 51 in WTA doubles, while Janice sits at No. 54 in singles—a testament to Indonesia’s growing presence on the regional stage.

Elsewhere, the spotlight in singles remains on the Philippines’ Alexandra Eala, ranked 53rd in the world, who will face Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew in the women’s singles gold medal match on Thursday, December 18.
