Get to know Southeast Asian players in 2026 World Pickleball League

After a successful inaugural edition last year, the World Pickleball League (WPBL) returns for its second season, set to take place in Mumbai, India, from January 24 to February 8.

Headlined by Pickleball Hall of Fame inductee Simone Jardim, the latest chapter features 56 players from over 15 countries, reflecting the league’s rapidly expanding global footprint. Notably, six of the players are from Southeast Asia, underscoring the region’s growing influence and relevance within the international pickleball ecosystem.

Ly Hoong Nam (Vietnam)

Team: Chennai Super Champs

Arguably the most famous tennis player in Vietnamese history, Ly made national headlines in 2015 by winning the Wimbledon boys’ doubles title alongside India’s Sumit Nagal, becoming the first Vietnamese player to claim a Grand Slam trophy. Since transitioning to pickleball, Ly has adapted seamlessly and is now one of the highest-ranked players on the PPA Tour Asia.

Do Minh Quan (Vietnam)

Team: Chennai Super Champs

A veteran of Vietnamese tennis, Quan brings experience and leadership to the WPBL. The 42-year-old was a mainstay of the Vietnam national tennis team for more than a decade, representing the country at the Davis Cup and enjoying success at the SEA Games.

Trang Huynh-McClain (Vietnam)

Team: Dilli Dillwale

One of Vietnam’s most accomplished female players ever, Huynh-McClain memorably captained her nation during its first Fed Cup appearance in 2013 and competed at both the Asian Games and SEA Games.

Vien Hien Truong (Vietnam)

Team: Dilli Dillwale

A familiar face on the Vietnamese pickleball circuit, he has steadily built his resume through consistent performances at both national and regional levels. He is also an active competitor on the PPA Tour Asia, most recently winning the 2025 Hangzhou Open.

Trinh Linh Giang (Vietnam)

Team: Team Jaipur

Trinh played tennis internationally for Vietnam, including representing the country at the Davis Cup, before switching to pickleball. The transition has paid dividends, as he is currently ranked fifth on the PPA Tour Asia and has captured gold at the 2025 Malaysia Open.

Sarah Jane Lim (Philippines)

Team: Pune United

Lim is the only Southeast Asian player outside Vietnam featured in the 2026 WPBL. With an active presence on the PPA Tour Asia, she continues to compete against the region’s best players, with recent appearances at the Vietnam Cup and Malaysia Cup.
