The 2025 MotoGP title may already be decided, but there is still plenty on the line in the final stretch of the season, especially the fight for third place in the riders’ championship.
With just two rounds remaining in Portimao and Valencia, the Marquez brothers have already locked down the top two positions, leaving the fight for P3 as the main storyline.
Marco Bezzecchi currently occupies the position with 291 points, holding a slender five-point advantage over Francesco Bagnaia, while Pedro Acosta sits a further 26 points behind.
Holding off both would be no easy task, but Bezzecchi is embracing the challenge.
“It is super cool to be able to at least fight for it and be there with only two races to go, so I am very happy for this,” said the Aprilia Racing rider on Thursday.
“Of course, we are in a position to fight, so we would love to try to achieve it.
“It will be a tough battle because Pecco and Pedro are super strong, but I am also quite strong, so hopefully we can try to fight till the end.”
Bezzecchi moved into P3 largely due to Bagnaia’s run of three consecutive DNFs, something the two-time world champion is determined to put behind him this weekend in Portugal.
[P3 in the riders’ standings] is an objective and we just need to be focused on that,” said Bagnaia.
“We know Bez is doing a very good progression, so is Pedro.
“We will try to start again from this weekend with a positive result.”

As for Acosta, who entered the picture with two P2 finishes in the last three Grands Prix, the Spaniard insisted the three-way battle was not on his mind.
“I do not really think about it, as I am still quite far behind,” said the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider.
“I think I am making a better season compared to last year, so let’s see what happens after Portugal.”
