Axelsen withdraws from 2025 BWF World Tour season

Viktor Axelsen has withdrawn from the remainder of the 2025 BWF World Tour tournaments.

Viktor Axelsen announced that he would not be competing in the remaining 2025 BWF World Tour tournaments to focus on preparing for the 2026 season.

The two-time Olympic champion shared the news on Friday via his official X account.

“I won’t be able to compete [at the Japan Masters] and [Australian Open] as originally planned,” he wrote.

“I am doing everything I can to get my body ready for 2026 [and I am] blessed to have good people around me who [are] supporting me in the best way possible.”

“No stone left unturned. Your support is highly appreciated. See you soon.”

In addition to the two events, Axelsen was also on the preliminary entry list for the 2025 Syed Modi International Badminton Championships.

The Danish star sat out for several tournaments following his back surgery earlier in the season before making his comeback at the Hong Kong Open in September.

He also featured in the second edition of BDMNTN-XL in Jakarta.

Prior to the announcement, his most recent competitive action was at the French Open, where he lost to national compatriot Anders Antonsen in the quarter-finals.
