Gabriel Martinelli has joined Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal from Arsenal, ending his seven-year spell in north London shortly after helping the Gunners end their long wait for the Premier League title.

The Brazil international has signed a four-year contract with the Riyadh club after completing a move reportedly worth around £60 million, making him Arsenal’s record sale.

Martinelli joined Arsenal from Brazilian side Ituano as an 18-year-old in 2019 and went on to score 62 goals in 278 appearances across all competitions.

The 25-year-old won the FA Cup during his first season in England before playing a role in Arsenal’s rise under Mikel Arteta, which culminated in their first Premier League title in 22 years last season.

Martinelli made 30 league appearances during the title-winning campaign as Arsenal finally returned to the top of English football after three consecutive runner-up finishes.

His move makes him the third player to join Al Hilal directly from the Premier League in recent weeks following Crysencio Summerville from West Ham United and Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa.

Watkins has already made an immediate impact, scoring on his debut in a 3-0 victory over Al Ahli, while Summerville has also quickly established himself in Simone Inzaghi’s attack.

Martinelli now adds another option to an increasingly formidable forward line as Al Hilal look to reclaim the Saudi Pro League title.

The Riyadh giants have made an unbeaten start to the new campaign and currently sit joint-top alongside defending champions Al Nassr.

Martinelli could make his debut when Al Hilal travel to face Al Shabab on Friday.
