Wilfried Nancy was sacked by Celtic on Monday after just one month in charge.
Saturday’s 3–1 defeat to arch-rivals Rangers, which extended the club’s poor run to six losses in eight matches, proved to be the final straw.

Nancy, the 2024 MLS Coach of the Year who joined from Columbus Crew, was immediately replaced by Martin O’Neill until the end of the season.
The Northern Irishman returned on an interim basis for the second time this season, having previously overseen the team following the departure of Brendan Rodgers in October.
During his earlier stint, the defending Scottish Premiership champions won seven out of eight matches in all competitions, including reaching the Scottish League Cup final.
“I’m obviously very pleased and privileged to be back at the football club, but in circumstances like this, with Wilfried leaving the club, that just seems a wee bit strange at this moment,” said O’Neill
“We know we’re in a big fight. We’re going to try and win the league. It won’t be easy, although it never is, but we’re halfway through the season, we’ve got a big fight on our hands, so we have to be up to the challenge.”
Celtic are currently second in the league, sitting six points behind Hearts and ahead of Rangers on goals scored.
