Danny Rohl and Rangers: League Results Improve, But Ibrox Scrutiny Remains Intense

The managerial baton at Ibrox passed hands swiftly. Following a lacklustre period under Russell Martin, who lasted just 123 days, Rangers moved quickly to appoint Danny Rohl on October 20, 2025, hoping the new manager would be the team’s much-needed saviour.

However, Rohl’s start was far from easy. His Europa League debut ended in a heavy 0-3 defeat against Brann, setting a worrying tone.

Unbeaten Run Masks Deeper Performance Issues

In the nine games Rohl has overseen, Rangers’ performance has been mixed. European competition remains a struggle, with a total of two losses and one draw recorded.

Domestically, they also suffered a painful semi-final exit from the League Cup at the hands of rivals Celtic.

Ironically, the team’s league performance has shown a positive upward trend. Rangers are currently on a five-game unbeaten streak, including four consecutive wins. That winning run was only halted last weekend after a frustrating 0-0 draw against Falkirk at Ibrox.

This is where the major concern lies. While the league results look good on paper, Rangers’ on-field display is far from convincing. Following the goalless draw with Falkirk, loud boos were audible from the stands, signalling the fans’ deep frustration. Crucially, players often appeared reluctant to take responsibility and make things happen offensively.

Rohl Concedes Confidence Crisis

Rohl openly acknowledged that the core issue plaguing his squad is a crisis of mentality and confidence.

“This is exactly the point,” Rohl conceded. “When you feel 100% confidence, when you are on your highest level, then you make exactly the right decisions. This is the moment you see some players think too much, in some moments it’s not natural. I think normally after four wins in a row you should be growing in this confidence.”

Furthermore, when asked if certain players need to show more to convince him of their long-term future at Rangers, Rohl sent a clear signal.

“Yes, I think this is also part,” he asserted. “We have a long December where we have to work with this group, but of course we have also to look at what we can do. We have to go the next four weeks with this group. I see positive examples but I see as well players they can’t use, at the moment, the opportunities.”

Rohl must now urgently instill that missing confidence into his team with virtually no time to spare. Their next test arrives immediately.

Rangers will face Dundee United on Wednesday (3/12/2025) at the Calforth Construction Arena. Can Danny Rohl deliver the fluid performance the fans crave and quiet the growing doubts before the transfer window opens?
