It’s something that can happen – Bagnaia on Portuguese GP crash

Francesco Bagnaia endured another DNF in the penultimate race of the 2025 MotoGP season.

Francesco Bagnaia had another race to forget as he crashed out of the Portuguese Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Ducati Lenovo Team rider was running in fourth place when he lost control and went down on lap 11, marking his fourth consecutive DNF since the Indonesian Grand Prix.

The result dealt a heavy blow to his hopes of finishing third in the MotoGP riders’ standings, as Marco Bezzecchi capitalised with a commanding victory in Portimao to open up a 35-point lead heading into the final round in Valencia.

Reflecting on the incident, ‘Pecco’ was disappointed with the result but not with his effort.

“I was pushing hard to secure the fourth position,” he said.

“It was a bit too soon to be comfortable, so I was pushing hard, trying to catch Pedro [Acosta for a podium finish].

“I knew it was tough because [he was] much faster than me.

“So I was just trying to do the maximum, and I just crashed because I was pushing. It’s something that can happen.”

Despite the setback, the two-time world champion chose to stay positive.

“It was a better weekend [than in Phillip Island or Indonesia]. The result, more or less, is the same.

“We just need to be focused for the last race. And I really want to do a very good weekend there, having a good result.”
