Jorge Martin and Fermin Aldeguer are preparing to return at this weekend’s Qatar Grand Prix, with fitness assessments and replacement riders helping shape the line-up at Lusail.

The November 6-8 event is the third-last round of the MotoGP season, with Marc Marquez holding a 44-point championship lead over Martin.

Aprilia have confirmed that Martin will travel to Qatar after withdrawing from the Malaysian Grand Prix before qualifying.

The Spaniard is recovering from a wrist fracture sustained in the Australian Sprint and will assess his condition with the team.

Gresini Racing, meanwhile, have announced Aldeguer’s return after a hand injury at Mandalika forced him to miss the Australian and Malaysian rounds.

He will have a different teammate this weekend, with Iker Lecuona replacing Alex Marquez, who underwent surgery after Sepang and hopes to return in Portugal.

Trackhouse rider Raul Fernandez also intends to compete after finger injuries prevented him from completing the previous two race weekends. His participation remains dependent on his recovery and medical assessment.

There is less certainty over Honda’s Joan Mir, whose return in Malaysia ended in retirement after his vision problems resurfaced. Jake Dixon has been reported as a possible replacement, but Honda have yet to confirm a change.

The confirmed team absences are Yamaha’s factory squad and Pramac Yamaha, following the manufacturer’s decision to maintain their company-wide restrictions on travel to the Middle East.

That rules out Fabio Quartararo, Alex Rins, Jack Miller and Augusto Fernandez, who has been deputising for the injured Toprak Razgatlioglu.

MotoGP said consultations with Qatari authorities, Lusail International Circuit and independent safety advisers had produced no information requiring changes to the event, adding the remaining teams had confirmed their participation.

The final rider line-up will depend on medical clearances and any further team announcements before track action begins on Friday.
