Both sides arrive at AAMI Park brimming with confidence after emphatic wins last gameweek.
Melbourne Victory dismantled Wellington Phoenix in a 5-1 masterclass, their third consecutive triumph. Greek striker Nikos Vergos stole the headlines with a stunning hat-trick, while Keegan Jelacic and Santos added gloss to the scoreline.
For Santos, that goal could prove pivotal—it was his first of the season and might just spark a resurgence. Vergos, meanwhile, now sits joint-top of the scoring charts alongside Harry Sawyer (Macarthur) and Lachlan Rose (Newcastle Jets).
Speaking ahead of the clash, Vergos credited his recent form to consistency and hard work:
“It’s better when you work hard and keep doing what you know. I didn’t change anything—I stayed consistent, and finally, the results came. That’s why I’m very happy.”
Victory will be chasing a fourth straight win at AAMI Park as they look to climb further up the ladder. But Vergos insists there’s no room for complacency:
“We’re only in Round 10, and we’re still mid-table. We haven’t achieved anything yet. It’s not time to celebrate—we need to keep going.”
