Moto4 Asia Cup champions reunite at Motegi

Eight former Moto4 Asia Cup champions reunited at Motegi on Saturday ahead of the series’ opening race at the Japanese Grand Prix weekend.

The gathering brought together winners from 2015 to 2025 as the current generation continued their own title battle, with Hayato Chishiki winning Race 1.

The series, previously known as the Asia Talent Cup, has helped young riders progress towards the motorcycle racing world championships since its launch in 2014.

Ayumu Sasaki, the 2015 champion, now races in Moto2 for Momoven Idrofoglia RW Racing Team.

Somkiat Chantra won the title in 2016 and went on to become Thailand’s first MotoGP rider in 2025. Now competing in WorldSBK, he is back in MotoGP this weekend as Joan Mir’s replacement at Honda HRC Castrol.

Deniz Oncu, the 2017 champion, races in Moto2 for ELF Marc VDS Racing Team, while 2021 winner Taiyo Furusato joined the category this year with Idemitsu Honda Team Asia.

Hakim Danish took the title in 2022 and is now in his first full Moto3 season with AEON Credit-MT Helmets-MSI, memorably claiming his first Grand Prix victory at Brno earlier this year.

The next two champions, Veda Ega Pratama in 2023 and Zen Mitani in 2024, are now Moto3 teammates at Honda Team Asia.

Ryota Ogiwara, who won the Cup last year, competes in the Moto3 Junior World Championship with Asia Talent Team and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.

The reunion featured eight of the series’ 11 champions, with only Kaito Toba (2014), Billy Van Eerde (2018) and Sho Nishimura (2019) absent.

The 2026 Moto4 Asia Cup season continues with Race 2 at Motegi on Sunday, before the riders head to Indonesia, Malaysia and Qatar for the remaining rounds.
