Singapore hero Ilhan Fandi joins 6-7 craze after Asian Cup qualification

Ilhan Fandi jumped on the “6-7” trend after helping Singapore seal qualification for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

The 23-year-old forward scored the winning goal against Hong Kong at the Kai Tak Stadium to secure the Lions’ first Asian Cup appearance since 1984.

With his decisive strike coming in the 67th minute, it quickly caught on among younger Singaporean fans due to the “6 7” meme, as seen in a post shared by the Singapore Youth League account.

The light-hearted moment added to the feel-good atmosphere as supporters gathered at the Changi Airport on Wednesday to welcome the national team home.

The success of Gavin Lee’s men in Hong Kong also came with financial rewards, as Football Association of Singapore (FAS) president Forrest Li announced the squad would receive around S$2 million for their achievement.
