After three consecutive defeats across all competitions, Liverpool finally returned to the winner’s circle, securing a crucial 2-0 victory over West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday (30/11/2025).

Manager Arne Slot made a bold statement with his team selection, dropping Mohamed Salah to the bench for the first time since April 2024. The Egyptian star ultimately played no part in the match, as Slot entrusted the attack to a new-look trio: Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz, and Alexander Isak.

The decision proved decisive. The three forwards combined beautifully to open the scoring, with Wirtz setting up Gakpo, who provided the assist for Alexander Isak (60′). It was a milestone moment for Isak, who netted his very first goal for the club.

Gakpo later turned from provider to scorer to seal the win (90+2′). It was the Dutchman’s first goal since the 5-1 Champions League victory over Frankfurt (22/10/2025), and his first league goal since the 2-1 loss to Manchester United (19/10/2025).

For the Reds, “relief” is the word of the day. This victory marks their first points away from home since beating Burnley 1-0 in mid-September.

Speaking after the match, Isak reflected on the pressure and his breakthrough moment:

“We knew it was going to be difficult getting back to winning ways after our recent form. We are happy that we have won, and I’m happy to be on the scoresheet.

“I am aware that it has been a long time coming. I have been trying to get back to my best form. I am still on the way, but I am happy to get that goal. The best feeling is that we won the game, but scoring goals will always help me.”
