Xavi, Kluivert and Totti headline legends match ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Mexican city of Monterrey will host a high-profile exhibition match featuring international football legends this weekend.

The match, known as Juego de Leyendas, will see FIFA Legends take on Mexico Legends at the Estadio BBVA, as part of promotional activities for the upcoming global tournament jointly staged by Mexico, United States and Canada.

The match will be broadcast live on SPOTV NOW, with kick-off scheduled for 9:00AM on January 18 (GMT+8).

Among the confirmed FIFA Legends participants are Xavi Hernandez, Sergio Busquets, Carles Puyol, Pepe, Alessandro Del Piero, Francesco Totti, Christian Vieri, Marco Materazzi, René Higuita and Patrick Kluivert, who most recently served as head coach of the Indonesia national football team.

Former Real Madrid and England manager Fabio Capello is also set to be involved as head coach of the FIFA Legends side.

Meanwhile, the Mexico Legends squad will feature a host of former internationals, including Luis Hernández, Jared Borgetti, Miguel Layún, Oribe Peralta, Héctor Moreno, Andrés Guardado, Paco Palencia, Marco Fabián, Óscar Pérez, Hiram Mier and Moisés Muñoz.

This will be the second edition of the legends match, following the inaugural event in September 2024, which finished 3–3 before FIFA Legends prevailed on penalties.

That match featured the likes of Andrea Pirlo, John Terry, Gianluigi Buffon, Didier Drogba and Diego Forlán.
