The 2026 MotoGP preseason is fast approaching, with the Sepang Test less than a month away and set to offer the first on-track indication of what lies ahead.

While much of the immediate focus remains on preparations for 2026, attention has also begun to shift towards the 2027 season, which will usher in a major overhaul of MotoGP’s technical regulations.

The upcoming rule changes will represent the most significant shift in the premier class since the 2007-2012 period, when engine capacity was reduced from 990cc to 800cc before eventually settling with the current 1000cc. From 2027, engine size will be reduced to 850cc, while all bikes will also be required to run on 100 per cent sustainable fuel.

With the new regulations introducing a degree of uncertainty and risk, it is perhaps no surprise that teams and riders have been reluctant to commit long-term. At the time of writing, here are the only riders who have confirmed contracts covering the 2027 season:

Johann Zarco

Zarco became the first rider confirmed for 2027 after signing a two-year contract extension with LCR Honda last September. The deal represented a strong vote of confidence in the 35-year-old, who enjoyed a solid 2025 campaign and memorably became the first French rider in 71 years to win the French Grand Prix.

Diogo Moreira

LCR Honda have also committed long-term to Diogo Moreira, promoting the Brazilian to the premier class before he sealed his Moto2 title. The 21-year-old has signed a multi-year deal, ensuring he will remain on the MotoGP grid until at least 2027.

Toprak Razgatlioglu

After years of speculation, the three-time Superbike World Championship winner will finally make his MotoGP debut in 2026 after signing a two-year contract with Prima Pramac Yamaha. The agreement effectively secures the Turkish rider’s place on the grid through the first year of the new regulations.

Rest of the Grid

19 seats remain unconfirmed for 2027, but it is unimaginable that leading names such as Marc Marquez, Francesco Bagnaia, Jorge Martin, Pedro Acosta, Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Quartararo not being part of the championship once the dust settles.
