MotoGP has never been a sport where simply crossing the finish line can be taken for granted. Crashes, mechanical failures and injuries make retirements an inevitable part of life in the premier class.
Through the opening 11 rounds of the 2026 season, excluding Saturday Sprint races, every full-time rider has either failed to finish a Grand Prix or missed at least one Sunday start, except Luca Marini.

The Honda HRC Castrol rider is the only rider to have completed all 271 Grand Prix laps from Thailand to Germany before the mid-season break, quietly putting together one of the most consistent campaigns on the grid despite not yet standing on the podium.
Marini holds the sole distinction after the German Grand Prix. Fabio Di Giannantonio had also completed every Sunday race distance before crashing out at the Sachsenring, leaving Marini as the last rider with a flawless Grand Prix record in the 2026 campaign.
At the other end of the scale is Joan Mir. The 2020 world champion has retired from seven Grands Prix, the most of any rider this season, while Francesco Bagnaia and Alex Marquez share second with four retirements apiece.
The championship standings also underline the value of consistency, reliability and even luck. Despite winning just one race each, Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura occupy the top two positions in the riders’ standings ahead of Marco Bezzecchi and Marc Marquez, whose seven combined victories have been offset by costly retirements and injuries.

Marini has yet to stand on the podium this season, with fifth place at the Hungarian Grand Prix remaining his best result. Yet by taking the start every Sunday and bringing the bike home every time, the 28-year-old has climbed to 10th in the riders’ standings on 79 points, making him the highest-ranked rider without a podium finish. Remarkably, the Italian sits three points ahead of Fermin Aldeguer, despite the Spaniard having one runner-up finish this season, and just eight behind Alex Marquez.
Marini’s consistency has also made him Honda’s benchmark for reliability, providing the Japanese manufacturer with invaluable race mileage as they continue their climb back towards the front of the grid.
