Al Nassr’s grip on the top spot slipped last week after a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Al Ahli, compounded by Al Hilal’s 2-0 win over Damac. The result leaves Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates second in the table, just one point behind leaders Al Hilal.

On Thursday, the pressure to keep pace with their rivals meets a formidable challenge: an in-form Al Qadsiah side under Brendan Rodgers. The former Liverpool boss, appointed last month, has injected attacking intent into his squad—and the results speak for themselves.

Al Qadsiah have scored eight goals in three matches since Rodgers took charge, including a ruthless 4-0 dismantling of Al Riyadh last weekend.

Their expected goals (xG) in that game hit 2.48, the second-highest of their season. Across Rodgers’ three matches, the team averages 2.09 xG—up from just 1.39 under predecessor Michel.

Rodgers was bullish in his pre-match press conference:

“The Al Nassr match is a great challenge for us, and we are fully prepared. Our style will not change—we’ll play with our usual personality and attack with tactical discipline. We enter every game with one goal: to win. I respect Al Nassr and their quality, but we must play our way and make sure they don’t feel comfortable.”

The attacking burden will once again fall on Julian Quiñones and Mateo Retegui, both sitting on eight goals this season. Their partnership has been pivotal to Al Qadsiah’s resurgence.

For Al Nassr, history offers little comfort. They’ve lost their last three meetings with Al Qadsiah—twice by 2-1 last season and once 1-0 back in 2020/21.

With Ronaldo leading the line, the hosts will be desperate to break that streak and keep their title hopes alive.
